Designing with Dust is an outdoor installation featuring handmade bioplastic sheets and sawdust tiles. This “material library of dust” invites the public to explore diverse aesthetic possibilities for reimagining and revaluing construction waste. Visitors will also find a recipe book, enabling them to create their own biomaterial at home.

Friends Making Work, together with students from Thammasat University, sourced waste materials from local suppliers to fill the library in the weeks leading up to the exhibition.

To craft the library shelves, Friends Making Work collaborated with Bang Pho artisans who utilized local neem wood, finished in teak oil. The shelves feature dowel joinery and are fully demountable. After the exhbition, the library will be moved to a new location at Thammasat Design School.

Sited at Goddess Chao Mae Thapthim Shrine in Bangkok’s historic wooden furniture-making district, Bang Pho, the exhibition is part of the city-wide Bangkok Design Week, the largest design festival in Southeast Asia. BKKDW presents more than 400 design and creativity programs from more than 2,000 participants with over 400,000 Thai and international visitors each year.
